Default My Dad's 70's Leather Jacket Review

So yeah, since I'm a newcomer to bikes, I don't own much gear. The best thing I own is probably my dad's 30 something year old leather jacket back when he rode bikes. I'm not going to bother with my body profile since you probably won't be able to find something like this outside of an antique store, but I will say that it's thick enough for me to feel comfortable wearing it while riding. Movement is good and it looks outstanding for its age.

Pros: No one else will have a jacket quite like it. Looks awesome and you can act like The Fonz with it. Good movement range and comfort for an old school leather jacket. Already Broken In.

Cons: The bottom is some kind of suede material that is rubbing off on my pants and belt, I have no idea how to get rid of this crap it's extremely annoying... oh well, you get what you pay for I guess.

This wasn't a super serious review... I just thought you might get a laugh out of the residue thing, imagine getting off the bike for dinner only to find a nice quasi-sticky layer of brown crap all over the top of your pants and your belt. Thanks Dad!

Have you tried Goo Gone? (although it may take the dye off of your belt as well.... )

YIKES, that sucks man! Try taking a wet towel, and just scrubbing the hell out of it, see if all the crap will come off first.

Yeah I got all the crap off the belt, I'll just wash the pants and shirt and that should take it out...

The real problem is the jacket, I'm gonna need to do some major work to get that gunk off... its probably worth it, that jacket was like $400 new, and that was 30 years ago.

Try doing the towel trick to see if the debris will come off the jacket... worse case, you just mess up a towel!

that's a pretty bitchin jacket. Glad to see you got it sorted out.

How tightly do the wrist cuffs tighten? I was wearing a leather jacket when I went down in April, and the cuffs were loose enough that the jacket slid all the way up to my elbow, leaving my entire forearm exposed to have the skin removed, and then slid back down so I didn't even realize it until I got home to find a sleeve full of blood. Now that I've got my mesh jacket the arm adjustments shouldn't allow that.

The arms are fairly stiff, and they aren't elastic cuffs. They have zippers to tighten them, and they fit fairly snug. I wouldn't worry about that issue if I went down.

sweet. I'm jealous. Even though it would look out of place on my SM, it would be sweet on pretty much anything else.
